Map of Kos Island in Greece

Kos
Island
Kos lies to the North-West of Rhodes and
is the second largest of the Dodecanese Islands. Only around 4
hours flying time from the UK, this is a small and friendly Island
with a lot to offer its visitors including beautiful sandy beaches
and clear blue seas and guaranteed sunshine.
Inland you will find sleepy villages and natural, rural beauty and
along the coast busy resorts such as Kos Town and Kardamena where
the discos and pubs open till the early hours.
Kos is an Island that caters for everyone from young groups to
families, couples and the elderly and is now more accessible to
holidaymakers with direct flights available from all major
airlines such as Excel Airways and Britannia.
Nea Alikarnassos
This small resort lies on Lambi beach,
only 2km to the North of Kos Town, and around 25km from the
airport.
Kos Town
The capital of the island lies on the
North-East coast, backed by a range of hills 24km North-East of
the airport. With plenty to see including the ancient roman baths
and the Temple of Dionysos and many discos and bars, Kos Town has
a good balance of culture and nightlife, making for a great
holiday location. Kos Town has two beaches, a shingle beach built
up with imported sand to the South, and a broad, sandy beach at
Lambi. Most eateries are located around the harbour, with cheaper
tavernas around the beaches.
Psalidi
25km from Kos airport, Psalidi is a quiet,
relaxing resort close to Kos Town. Visitors to Psalidi can take
advantage of the shops, sights and entertainments of the islands
capital as regular bus services run between the two towns.
Psalidid lies on a sand and shingle beach, which is backed by a
small number of restaurants and traditional tavernas. A popular
resort amongst families and couples.
Kardamena
Kardamena is on the South coast of Kos,
around 8km from the airport. The resort is favoured mainly by
young groups and is expanding rapidly. Accommodation ranges from
self-catering apartments to large 4/5* hotels on the outskirts.
The beach is large and sandy and activities such as pedaloes,
banana boats and jet skiing are available. Kardamena offers over
50 tavernas, 2 discos and a host of souvenir shops and
supermarkets. Day trips by boat are available from resort.
Mastihari
Mastihari is in the middle of the North
coast, 8km north of Kos airport. The beach here is sandy with some
seaweed and sunbeds and parasols are available for hire. This is a
quiet and peaceful resort visited mainly by independent
travellers, so bear in mind entertainments and shopping are
limited and better in Kos Town. There are a handful of small
tavernas and simple restaurants near the beach, a short walk from
most of the hotels that are more inland.
Marmari
On the North coast, around 13km from the
airport is Marmari, a slowly developing resort in a mostly rural
area. From the resorts long, sandy beaches there are great views
to Turkey. Watersports are available at the main resort centre. A
few small tavernas can be found in Marmari, and the village of
Pyli is only a short distance inland. This is a resort that really
does cater for all, especially families and those wishing to relax
by the sea. Marmari has many high standard hotels, most of which
are new and offer excellent facilities.
