Overview
The Greek island of Rhodes, a favourite
with holidaymakers due to its sunny
climate, is also known as 'The
Rose-Isle' because of its abundance of
beautiful flowers and lush surroundings.
With golden sands and clear blue water,
this holiday destination offers it all
with a variety of accommodation a variey
of resorts. Rhodes manages to offer
plenty of 'fun-in-the-sun' activities
and a lively nightlife, whilst still
maintaining its historical background
and traditional charm. Getting around
the towns is fine on foot however in
order to explore this large island,
hiring a car is recommended.
Who should go?
This is a friendly and safe island
making it a great destination for
families and older couples, as well as
providing a lively night atmosphere to
suit singles, groups and younger
couples.
The remains of
the world famous Colossus of Rhodes (one
of the Seven Wonders of the World), once
a gigantic statue which sadly was
damaged during a violent earthquake in
226 BC. In it's
place stand two stone columns, left and
right of the Mandraki Habour in Rhodes
Town. On each stone column stand
two deer a female and a male made of
bronze.
